【摘要】将无机填料作为阻燃剂时，应尽量减少填料对聚合物基材性能的负面影响，降低材料高温裂解所生成的可燃组分，改善材料的热物理性能，并防止填料发生物理转变。
石棉、滑石粉、云母粉、硅灰石粉等，也可作为阻燃剂。它们实际上是填料，其阻燃机理包括对高聚物的稀释、蓄热、导热、降温、表面效应等。填料可分为活性的和惰性的两大类，但这种分类只是相对的。例如，900℃以下时，石棉只是一个热导率低的惰性稀释剂，但在900℃～1400℃时，石棉可释出结晶水；1400℃以上时，石棉可发生改变化学结构的吸热反应，而且石棉中的某些组分也有可能与高聚物的某些热降解产物相互反应，这时石棉就成为活性填料了。将无机填料作为阻燃剂时，应尽量减少填料对聚合物基材性能的负面影响，降低材料高温裂解所生成的可燃组分，改善材料的热-物理性能，并防止填料发生物理转变。值得注意的是，某些可作为阻燃剂的无机化合物是聚合和缩聚反应的催化剂，它们对聚合物的燃烧或分解产物也具有催化作用，故可促进成炭。例如，某些钛、钴氧化物等可催化聚烯烃类脱氢环化和芳构化。
